Five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher is one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle, with a range of major programs targeting him, including Syracuse basketball.
The 6-foot-4 Wilcher recently attended Orange’s annual elite camp, and ‘Cuse coaches offered him a scholarship in mid-July.
Since the start of the summer, college coaches have been able to contact 2023 players directly. There have also been live periods at AAU competitions where college coaches can watch high school contestants in person.
Additionally, college coaches during various NCAA-authorized recruiting and evaluation periods can visit 2023 players at their respective high schools or prep schools. And elite prospects such as Wilcher are also busy planning visits to college campuses.
Let’s look at where Syracuse five-star basketball target Simeon Wilcher plans to go.
Wilcher, a consensus among the top 15 players across the country in his cycle, head coaches from North Carolina, Connecticut and Nebraska recently visited him, according to a tweet from college basketball insider Adam Zagoria.
In addition, according to Zagoria, Wilcher intends to make visits to the Orange in the future, Oregon and Maryland. This is great news regarding Wilcher’s potential trip to central New York City, although the competition for him is really intense.
Since Syracuse basketball offered it, other teams have followed suit with new offers for Wilcher, including North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas Tech and DePaul.
According to recruiting services, media reports and Wilcher’s own Twitter page, it holds more than 20 offers. Memphis, Ohio State, Iowa, Kansas, Auburn, Illinois, Duke, Kentucky, Miami and UCLA are other stellar teams that have come up with it or are showing interest.
I would expect all blue blood groups and recruiting heavyweights to get involved with Wilcher as his recruiting continues to grow. He begins his junior season at Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, NJ, and Wilcher races the AAU circuit with the New York-based NY Renaissance.
As we noted in a recent column, Wilcher currently has a great interest in ‘Cuse, according to an interview he conducted with Mike McAllister, the publisher of SyracuseOnSI.
Syracuse basketball coaches are chasing a range of four- and five-star prospects in the 2023 class, and this cycle could prove to be pretty darn fantastic for the Orange if they get commitments from a few of those players.
From what I’ve read about Wilcher he is one of the top priorities of the ‘Cuse in this cycle, if not the first overall target for the Orange coaching team.
By the way, Recruiting Services see Wilcher as one of the top two prospects for his job in the 2023 class, whether it’s leader or combined guard.
